The purpose of this study was to test if ice affected how far baseballs are thrown. Radars work by sending out signals, then when the signal hits something, it returns back to the radar, and then the radar quickly calculates from the time it took to come back how far away the object it hit was. For the first experiment, a volunteer dipped their throwing arms elbow in ice cold water for different amount of time, and then threw a baseball at a line drive angel as far as possible; it was sighted where it landed. For that experiment it was found that temperature didn’t affect the distance thrown by that much. Even though the ice water didn’t affect how far a baseball could be thrown, if it was dipped in ice cold water for longer periods of time, there might be a bigger effect on distance thrown.


It was found that ice cold water did not affect how far a baseball could be thrown by much.This data is important to the world because it shows lots of things. Such as how temperature doesn’t affect muscles for a short period of time. And how distances effects accuracy. Heart rate to throwing helps the world because it shows how heart rate is affected by just throwing baseballs. Also, it shows that some balls can’t be thrown as far as others. The hypothesis was incorrect for the first experiment. It was believed that temperature would affect distance thrown for greatly than what it actually was. A good follow up experiment would be testing if ice water effected distance, but have the volunteers arm soaked in water for longer periods of time. Such as 10 min, 30 min, and 60 min.
