ABSTRACT

The purpose of this experiment was to find out if soaking braces bands in liquids would affect the strength of the braces bands. Liquids have different amounts of acid and bases in them and braces bands are made out of elastic, when rubber gets soaked in chemicals the strength changes. Rubber bands were soaked in different liquids and then tested for strength. The braces bands that were soaked in Sprite became stronger and the braces bands in water became weaker. Therefore since Sprite has more acid in it and water has no acids or bases the braces bands soaked in Sprite were stronger.

EXPERIMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS FUTURE EXPERIMENTS

One thing that could have been improved on would be how the bands were measured, some bands sat in the liquid longer than others. Another improvement that could have helped the results would be to use different brands for every time the experiment was repeated. For a future experiment it would be interesting to see why the braces bands became stronger in acid. Another future experiment could be to measure why different colors of rubber bands didn't make such a difference in the results.
